Lalamove’s delivery partners are set to benefit from the company’s latest collaboration with the National Delivery Champions Association (NDCA) after it signed an agreement to improve working conditions, enhance workers’ skills, and address grievances more effectively.
The agreement was signed at the Lifelong Learning Institute on 28 November 2024.
As part of the agreement, Lalamove will grant NDCA formal recognition under the upcoming Platform Workers Act, which takes effect on 1 January 2025.
The recognition will also give NDCA the legal authority to represent its members through collective bargaining, conciliation, and arbitration processes.
Delivery partners can expect several direct advantages from this partnership:
Key stakeholders, including NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong, Lalamove Singapore Managing Director Alex Lin, NDCA Executive Secretary Jean See, and Lalamove Senior Manager for Driver Operations Javier Wong, attended the signing ceremony.
Delivery partners, Lalamove’s management representatives, and NTUC and NDCA leaders were also present.
Ms Cham said: “This partnership paves the way in strengthening protection for our platform workers. We look forward to working with more partners to champion platform workers’ interests and safeguard their livelihoods.”
Mr Lin highlighted the company’s commitment to fostering a supportive ecosystem for delivery partners.
“By working hand-in-hand with NDCA, we aim to enhance grievance resolution processes, provide skills training, and ensure our delivery partners are well-prepared for the evolving landscape under the Platform Workers Act,” he said.
Meanwhile, NDCA General Secretary Ng Gan Poh hoped that the partnership would help resolve some of the daily issues drivers face.
“Through close partnerships with Lalamove, NDCA can better voice our members' concerns and push for improvements that matter,” he said.
As the Platform Workers Act approaches implementation, the MOU sets precedence for industry collaboration to safeguard the welfare and rights of platform workers.
Lalamove’s formal recognition of NDCA signals its commitment to empowering its delivery partners with the tools and support needed to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
